During Womyn's Herstory Month, EJIE celebrated womyn's voices and the importance of celebrating their stories through a series of enriching events.
Empowering Stories: Celebrating Womyn's Voices
This event featured two remarkable womyn who have made significant contributions in their respective fields.
Baszile, renowned for her novel "Queen Sugar," discussed her literary journey and the empowering role of storytelling, particularly in relation to women. Her book, "We Are Each Other's Harvest," delves into stories that explore the connection of Black individuals to the American land from Emancipation to the present day.
As an accomplished winemaker in California's renowned wine country, in Sonoma, Brenae Royal shared her experiences in the traditionally male-dominated industry of viticulture and winemaking, and how she has become a trailblazer in her field. Brenae was also featured in a chapter of "We Are Each Other's Harvest".
Womyn's Luncheon
EJIE celebrated seven extaordinary womyn (staff/faculty) who were nominated by campus community for their significant contributions to equity, justice, & inclusion on campus. This luncheon served as an opportunity to foster a sense of community and appreciation at the university. The honorees were chosen from a fifty-five nominations. They represent not only the pinnacle of achievemnt but also the embodiment of resilience, innovation and empowerment that embodies the spirit of Womyn's Herstory Month.
